Bon Voyage 2013!

Hello Resiterns!

In April we said goodbye to some wonderful Resitern members! We had the annual Bon Voyage party at Smooth Tony's in Galveston this year. Despite some uncertain weather, a great time was had by all. Good luck to all of our families as they embark on new journeys. We will miss each of you!

Our departing members this year were the Bairds, the Coughlins, the Griffiths, and the Stephens.

Baby News: Baby Girl Lydia Elisabeth has arrived!!!

Congratulations to Benjamin and Andrea on the arrival of their daughter Lydia Elisabeth. She was born on August 7th at 10:57pm. Everyone is doing great!

Baby News: Baby Bennett has arrived!!!

Congratulations to David and Amanda on the healthy arrival of their second son, Bennett Martin. He was born on July 11th weighing 6 lbs, 13 oz and 19 inches long. Everyone is doing great!

Bon Voyage

We had a bitter sweet celebration in June to say farewell to our graduating Residents. It was a wonderful evening of fun and laughter, but we are sad to see our friends go. However, we know they are moving on to bigger and better things and we wish them well in their new adventures.

Here is the group that made it a special night.

We hate to seem them leave, but wish the Haynes, Kanz, and Keelen families well.

Baby News: David Stuart is Here!!!

Congratulations to Nick and Hilary on the healthy arrival of their second son, David Stuart. He was born on June 26th and everyone is doing great!

Baby News: Sophia is here!!!!

Congratulations to Stuart, Katie and big sister Summer on the arrival their precious baby girl, Sophia Madison. She was born healthy and happy on June 26th at 3:15pm weighing 6 lbs, 14oz and 19 inches long.

Baby News: Preston James is here!!!

Congratulations to Alan and Kyla Muns on the healthy arrival of their sweet baby boy, Preston James. He was born on May 21st at 11:45pm weighing 8 lbs, 1oz. Everyone is doing great!!!

Our history...

Prior to 1959, UTMB had no social organization through which its house staff and their spouses could socialize. Recognizing the need for friendship and diversification while in Galveston, L’Nell Starkey initiated the formation of a group which was to become Resiterns. Although the organization has changed somewhat

from the small group which met in the student lounge of the

Ashbel Smith Building in July 1959, its basic purpose is still the same; to offer a support group for residents, interns, fellows and their spouses/significant others throughout their years of training at UTMB.

Membership...

Membership is open to all interns, residents, fellows and their spouses or significant others. Former Resiterns members and faculty may join and receive the monthly newsletter.

During the year, members may take advantage of numerous social functions, participate in worthwhile service projects, benefit from programs designed to educate or entertain, and become involved in some of the smaller interest groups. An informative monthly newsletter is also sent to all active Resiterns members.

Annual dues are $50.00 for each family.

At a glance...

Care and Concern

The Care and Concern Committee provides Resiterns members with support and assistance when it's needed most! We celebrate the birth of each Resiterns baby with home-cooked meals for Mom and Dad. We also empathize with those friends mourning the loss of a loved one. Whatever joy or sorrow a member may be experiencing, the Care and Concern chairwoman and other friends in Resiterns are there to see the family through it.

Service Opportunities

Resiterns gives back to the local community through a variety of service projects and donations. We also collect items for the Women’s Crisis Center at monthly meetings. There are plenty of opportunities for each Resiterns member!

Mother’s Group

Mother’s Group plans activities throughout the year, including an Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Party, Children’s Bon Voyage, and Breakfast with Santa, for all the children of Resiterns members to enjoy.
